Help guide

How to connect a Facebook Page to dmswift.

dmswift connects to your Page through Facebook Login, Meta's own sign-in window. You approve the permissions there once; dmswift never sees your Facebook password, and you can remove its access from Facebook at any time.

Connect the Page

  1. In dmswift, open Settings, then Channels, and choose Connect Facebook.
  2. Facebook's window opens. Log in with the Facebook profile that manages the Page, if you are not logged in already.
  3. If your Instagram account is linked to the Page, select it on the step that lists Instagram accounts. Instagram guide
  4. Select the Page or Pages you want dmswift to manage.
  5. Allow every permission on the list, then choose Save. You are back in dmswift with the Page connected.

You need full control of the Page. A role with partial access cannot hand the Page to an app.

Which permissions, and why

Facebook lists each permission by its technical name. This is what each one lets dmswift do, and nothing more:

PermissionWhat it is for
pages_show_listSee the list of Pages you manage, so you can choose which to connect.
pages_manage_metadataSubscribe the Page to Meta's webhooks, so new comments and messages reach dmswift as they happen.
pages_read_engagementRead your posts and their basic engagement, to attach campaigns and show results.
pages_read_user_contentRead the comments people leave on your posts, so a campaign can answer the ones that match.
pages_manage_engagementReply to, hide, delete and like comments as the Page.
pages_messagingSend and receive Messenger messages for the Page: the private reply to a commenter and inbox replies to people who wrote first.
pages_manage_postsPublish and schedule posts on the Page.
read_insightsRead the Page's statistics: reach, views and followers.
business_managementReach Pages that belong to a Business portfolio you work in.
instagram_basicFind the Instagram account linked to the Page and read its profile and posts.
instagram_manage_commentsRead Instagram comments, reply publicly, hide and delete them.
instagram_manage_messagesSend and receive Instagram direct messages.
instagram_content_publishPublish feed posts, carousels, reels and stories on Instagram.
instagram_manage_insightsRead Instagram account and post statistics.

dmswift messages only people who wrote to you first, inside Meta's 24-hour window, whatever the permissions would technically allow.

Pages in a Business portfolio

If the Page belongs to a Business portfolio (formerly Business Manager), its admin must give your Facebook profile full control of the Page: in Meta Business Suite, open Settings, then Pages, choose the Page, and assign yourself with full control. Then connect again. In Facebook's window, the Page now appears in the list.

Reconnect when access expires

Facebook ends an app's access when you change your Facebook password, when a Page admin role changes, when you remove dmswift in Facebook's settings, or when Meta asks for a fresh approval. dmswift then marks the Page Reconnect and tells you on the dashboard.

  1. Open Settings, then Channels.
  2. Choose Reconnect next to the Page.
  3. Go through Facebook's window again, keeping the same Page (and Instagram account) selected.

Your campaigns, contacts and history stay where they are; anything that was waiting on the broken connection starts again.

Frequently asked questions

My Page is not in Facebook's list.

Either your profile does not have full control of the Page, or the Page belongs to a Business portfolio that has not assigned it to you. Ask a Page or portfolio admin for full control, then choose Connect Facebook again.

I unticked a permission. Does that matter?

Yes: the feature that needs it stops working, and dmswift marks the Page Reconnect. Choose Reconnect and allow the full list.

Facebook shows an "Invalid Scopes" warning.

It is shown only to developers of a Meta app and is harmless for customers. If you are the app's owner, add the permission to the app's use cases in the Meta developer dashboard.

A banner says the Page needs to be reconnected.

Its access ended, or it was connected before a permission dmswift now uses was added. Open Settings, then Channels, choose Reconnect and approve the permissions again.

Can I connect a Facebook Group?

No. Meta's API does not let apps reply to or message from Group comments, so dmswift works with Pages only.

How do I remove dmswift's access?

Disconnect the Page in Settings, Channels, or remove dmswift in Facebook's Settings, under Business integrations. Either one ends the access at once.
